Who are we?

Nestled in the heart of the historic downtown district, Sweenz Cafe has been a beloved gathering spot for locals and travelers alike since it first opened its doors in 1947. Founded by Eleanor "Ellie" Sweeney, a spirited home cook with a passion for comfort food and community, the café began as a modest corner diner serving fresh pies, hot coffee, and hearty meals to factory workers and families.

Sweenz Across the World!

Sweenz Today

Over the decades, Sweenz Cafe grew into more than just a restaurant—it became a neighborhood institution. Ellie's signature meatloaf and cinnamon rolls earned a loyal following, and her welcoming spirit set the tone for a place where everyone knew your name (and your usual order). Through the years, Sweenz has weathered changes in the world while holding fast to its original values: warm hospitality, honest food, and a place to feel at home.

Now run by Ellie's grandchildren, the third generation of the Sweeney family, Sweenz Cafe honors its legacy by blending timeless recipes with fresh, local ingredients and a modern twist. Whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth, we're glad you're here—and we hope you'll stay awhile.
